Wow! I made a blog that I never update -- how typical. I'm sure you're all wanting to know what is going on with my life. Well, let me tell you. I was once again laid off from my job, 364 days after my last lay off. I have this theory that my generation will become like those Vietnam veterans who never gained any skills and could never hold a job and are now sitting on the corner flying cardboard. We are a lost generation. I was at my last job for around 8 months and just when I felt like I was getting good at it, they let me go.
So that's that. Now, I'm just sitting at home chilling. Actually I'm building a web site template for our band and another band. It will be revealed soon. And I'm patiently waiting to hear back from the several places I've sent my resume.
It was 75 degrees on Sunday and then on Tuesday it snowed. I had a snowman come over to my house and climb my tree and play with Skrinkle.
Ok, so now that I've bored you to death, I'm going to get back to programming.

I'm a model, you know what I mean?
I guess I should update this so when my grandkids or my biographer wants to know what happened during June and July of 2009. I'll just make some bullets about each aspect of my life so that'll make it easier.
* modeling - I can now add runway modeling to my resume. Yelp had an event during Austin fashion week where some Yelpers got to put on some expensive clothes and walk down a catwalk at the Mohawk. I'm still waiting for that talent scout to call me.
* gardening - There is a drought going on all over Texas and it's killing my garden. The squash and zucchini where eaten up long ago by vine borers. Two of my cucumbers have succumb to the heat and my other cucumber and tomatoes are likely to be next. Surprisingly, the peppers really like the heat and are doing well, kinda.
* job - I got a job. It's somewhat a change in my career as I'm learning several new programming languages, APIs and such.
*Q-Bert - My beloved childhood pet had to be put down last week because he was suffering with renal failure. He was 16 years old, so it was for the best.
* art - I started painting a 6-canvas piece that is going to be my masterpiece once it's finished. I've also started doing some decorating in the living room and am finally turning a set of my boobs into a lamp.
There are probably a lot of other things I'm forgetting about, but this is about as much as you can soak in for one post.

Garden - 2 months
So all the plants are huge. I've caged up all the tomatoes, staked up the peppers and gave the cucumber a bamboo pole to climb on. All the tomatoes have a huge lot of green tomatoes on them. The peppers aren't growing as well as I had hoped. I've only gotten a few banana peppers but no bell peppers. Got a couple small cucumbers, squash and zuchinni. I'm afraid the squash and zuchinni are going to cover up the spinach. I'm not too concerned about it because it didn't taste that great anyway.

From the garden
We've finally got some veggies from the garden. I ate some banana peppers the other day. Yesterday I picked the first cucumber. All the tomato plants have a lot of green tomatoes.
It rained quite a bit yesterday and some of the pepper plants were knocked over. I got some sticks to prop them up. They all seem a bit top heavy and I'm wondering if I should do the same with them as I do with the tomatoes and put them in cages.
In other new...I now have a contract-to-hire position. Right now I'm doing Flex and will soon be doing a lot of other things. I'm pretty sure these guys are going to give me an offer when the contract is up.

I've been doing stuff
All one of you is probably asking "Why hasn't Camron updated his blog lately?"
The truth is, I don't really know. I'm somewhat busy, but at the same time I'm not. I've started volunteering/interning at Coronado Studios/ Serie Project as a printmaker. This mostly means that I do all the bullshit work that the people who actually get paid don't want to do like vacuuming, mopping, cleaning out screens and breathing in life-threatening chemicals. So, far I've assisted with the printmaking of two artists.
In other news, Soy Bombs played a show at SXSW and will be playing another event called Frugal Fest. Frugal Fest is partly my idea along with the people at Frugal Media. I booked all the bands, promoted the event, made t-shirts, etc. I'm hoping that it works out well for all and we get a bunch of new fans.
The garden is doing well. There aren't any vegetables yet, but some of the plants are flowering.

Planting stuff
Wendy and I went to Natural Gardener in Oak Hill to pick up some plants today. I bought a couple tomatoes, cucumbers and an assortment of peppers. Fourteen plants plus the two tomato plants that Wendy had previously bought. That only filled up half the garden area. We have three rows and we're planting everything about a foot apart. Wendy still has some planters that she's waiting to sprout before planting. Next weekend I'll we're going to a gardening show to pick up some more things. Hopefully I can get a yellow bell pepper, some more cucumbers and perhaps some onions?

I'm making a garden
So my roommate and I decided to dig up my backyard this past weekend to make way for a garden. It was somewhat a spur of the moment idea, so hope got some tools and starting digging up the grass. Hopefully it will happen because digging up my backyard would otherwise be a really stupid thing to do. I'm hoping to plant bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes. Wendy wants to plant zucchini and herbs. Any other suggestions? Tips on organic gardening?

The end of an Error
So after 2 years, 8 months of employment, MGAM has decided to layoff a crapload of people again. We hired a new CEO about 6 months ago and he only kept one of his promises from the first meeting he had with the company: "I'm not going to remember all your names."
I wish the company well in the future, especially since I still own stock.
I luckily got out of there with a buttload of severance and the momentum to do some awesome things in the future. We had known layoffs were coming for about a month and then the morning they finally happened I was afraid I wasn't going to be laid off. My boss was being laid off too, so to keep her from having to lay people off and then be laid off herself, they had someone else doing it. The person who laid off my other teammates kept bypassing me. So after about three hours of sitting around thinking I still had a job, someone else came and told me I was laid off.
I was really excited that it happened, but it was somewhat bittersweet because I found out I still had to work until the end of the month.

Quote of the Year
About once every 27 years a woman will hit on me, and for such moments I have come up with several witty comebacks for different scenarios. One of the most common things I hear is, "Do I know you from somewhere?" or "Haven't I met you before?" For such questions I would have answered "You must watch a lot of TV," or "Perhaps you meet a lot of good looking guys."
So, the other day when I was at the 101X Christmas Concert, I was prepared when this blond woman by the 101X tent asked me, "Haven't I met you before?"
This is how the conversation went:
Me: I don't know, do you work at 101X.
Girl: No, but I'm Deb's friend. (Deb being an on-air personality.)
Me: Maybe you work at some place I've been before. What do you do?
Girl: I shred.
Me: (somewhat perplexed, thinking this woman shreds paper for a living) What do you shred?
Girl: I'm a profressional wake-boarding.
Me: Oh, that's cool.
Now, this is the point where I should have used the witty line, "I don't know how you would know me, perhaps you just meet a lot of good-looking guys."
Instead what I said came out like this: "I don't know how you would know me. Sure are a lot of good-looking guys here tonight."

Me: (realizing what I actually said) I gotta go.

Does it look like me?
So, I painted a self-portrait last night for my final painting class of this semester. I have several other paintings that I've done this semester that I haven't posted, but I will do so soon.
This one took me about three hours. The most difficult part was the eye and making the eyes, nose and mouth take the viewer's eye away from the flat expanse of neck.
I'd love to recieve any questions or comments.

If only I were this lucky with women
So, I went to the Ghostland Observatory show last night. I started off the night by eating two slices at Hoboken Pies and then I sat at Bull McCabe's waiting for this girl I sold a ticket to to show up. The girl shows up and happens to be a really hot British chick who recently moved here. She said she hoped to see me inside. We texted back and forth a couple times after that, but I never saw her.
While at Bull McCabe's I shared a table with a couple of random people who turned out to be really cool. We hung out at the show.
While leaving the bathroom at Stubb's, I found two unused tickets on the ground. I held them up and asked if anyone had dropped them and no one replied, so I headed outside and sold them for $60. So, the next round was on me.

Fun Fun Fun Fest 08
I had triple the fun this weekend with three days of craziness. Friday started out with the Austinist Local Music Is Sexy party at the Mohawk.
Hung out with T.J. of Foot Patrol and listened to him play piano for a while. Stumbled to Emo's to see Diplo to stumble right back to The Mohawk.
I'm not sure if I saw any bands on Saturday at Fun Fun Fun Fest. I do know that I drank at least 4 Foster Oil cans,3 Miller Lite tall boys, 1 Dox Equis and 1 Heineken. I think I may have seen the Dead Milkmen, Trail of the Dead, Deerhoof, Swinging Utters and YACHT.
The afterparty was at the Mohawk. Then headed to Creekside to see a coworker's band, Babydick. The night ended at Bull McCabe's.
Sunday, I was tired of drinking so I watched Spinto Band, Annuals, Islands, St. Vincent and Bouncing Souls. On my way out, I ran into Annie Clark of St. Vincent. I should have made my move then.
On the way to the show Saturday, Rob and I called a cab to come pick us up. When the cabbie pulled up we saw two other guys trying to flag our cab down. We asked if they wanted to share our cab. The driver started yelling at us, "No, No, NO..their cab is waiting over there on Windsor street."
So the driver goes around the corner and sees that the driver on Windsor has already left, so he goes back to pick up the guys. We get about a block from where we're going so we ask the guy to let us out. We say we want to split it with these guys, but they only have a credit card. He says he can't do credit cards, so we try to give him cash. For some reason, the driver is so pissed at this point, he just tells us to get out without paying.

We had a really hot model today
So, I painted this in my painting class today. We had a nude model and she was really hot. At least hot compared to the last model we had. So yeah, I think it turned out pretty well. I can see some touching up that needs to be done. Her boob seems to be way lighter than the rest of her body. It was, but not as light as it appears in this photo. Anyway, tell me how much you love it.

End of an Era
After 8 years of friendship and 2 years of being roommates, Johnny moved to Massachusetts this weekend.
I suppose this is one of those chapter changing moments in both our lives. Johnny was laid off from his job about 2 months ago and started looking for jobs all over the country. He got offered a job from Turbine, the company that makes Lord of The Rings online.
Now, I have two empty bedrooms in my house and I need a roommate to ease my mortgage pain, so I can maintain my awesome lifestyle.

Did a Photo shoot today
I worked as a "model" today for William Hundley. The photo pictured is not one of me, but another of his work. The ones of me he will be using for an upcoming show and he doesn't want to reveal them just yet. I jumped around in a sheet for about two hours and was paid in Vitamin water and a photo shoot for my band..

ACL - Day 2
So I just realized I forgot to do a blog about the subsequent days of ACL. Well here's what went down on day two.
I showed up about noon and got Daniel Johnston's autograph and then watched a little bit of Fleet Foxes.
After this I left to go eat lunch at Chuy's where I had lunch. Then I walked over to Shady Grove and drank until 5pm.
I went back to the park at 5:30 to watch MGMT, but it was such a cluster I left and sat in front of the stage to wait for Conor Oberst. After Conor, I had a pretty good position for Beck, so I decided not to leave to watch Iron and Wine.
So, we finished with Beck. The mass exodus was ridiculous. The dust nearly killed us. And getting down Barton Springs Rd. took forever.

Shoe Sale
Shoe Pavillion on 183 and Great Hills Trail is going out of business. I picked up these three pairs of shoes for $50. Originally they would have cost $190. The last day of the sale is Oct. 12, so hurry up if you need some new shoes.

I hate girls
I went to see Johnathan Richman last night at the Parish. I had an extra ticket so I asked some people standing around outside if they were going to the show. Two of them said they'd already been in but there friend needed a ticket. I offered her the ticket for free. She snatched it from me and ran to the doorman. She turned to me and was a little embarrassed that she had thanked me yet, and she then thanked me and said she would buy me a drink. I could tell in the way she said it that she had no intention of buying me a drink. I walked into the show and never saw her again.
I get more thanks from people when I sell them tickets.

ACL - Day 1
Showed up at about 3:30 and got a good spot for the Gogol Bordello show. You have to show up about an hour early for any show if you want to be close.
Watched Mates of State and then David Byrne again. Watching David Byrne was much better at ACL than at the Paramount. The sound was better and I could actually see the stage. Then went to see the Swell Season, which wasn't nearly as good as they were at Coachella. Then went to eat a burger and then watched the debate.
